Gabriel Beristain, ASC BSC DGA

Gabriel Beristain was born in Mexico into a theatrical dynasty. His father, Luis Beristain, was a renowned lead actor of stage and screen whose last film was Luis Buñuel’s The Exterminating Angel.

He began his career as a documentary and newsreel cameraman throughout Europe, covering sensitive political, social, and ecological issues.

He was then accepted to the National Film and Television School in Beaconsfield, England, where he shot Jenny Wilkes’ Academy Award Winner for Best Foreign Student Film, Mother’s Wedding.

Having settled in England, The Berlin Film Festival honored him in 1987 with a Special Silver Bear for outstanding single achievement in cinematography and visual style for Derek Jarman’s Caravaggio.

Over the years he has been involved in over 70 film and TV projects, including Black Widow, Agent Carter, Dolores Claiborne, Blade II and III and the upcoming releases The Beekeeper, Harold and the Purple Crayon, and the series Washington Black.

Amongst his over hundred commercials and music videos, are the famous Aerosmith Trilogy Crying, Crazy, and Amazing.

As director, he has directed episodes of MacGyver and Hawaii 5-0, a live concert for Ara Malikian, the upcoming short film The Caddy with Ron Perlman, and the conceptual drama-documentary ELI for Earth League International with 25 actresses all over the world. In the Spring of 2024 he is set to direct Ya no Quedan Junglas to be shot in Spain.

As Producer-Director he has produced Havana Kyrie with the iconic actor Franco Nero and is developing an attractive slate of international projects and IP’s, including, the Cuban based limited series Empire of Havana, the Wales based historic series King Coal, Hemingway in partnership with Ron Perlman and Tripping with Zorba about a day in the life of Anthony Quinn on Coney Island.

Gabriel Beristain is a member of the DGA, ASC, BSC, AMC, and AMPAS. He has two children, Max (21) and Victoria (18 ).
